Roller Coaster vs Next Steps

Did you know a synonym for “transition” is progression? When we are in transition, we often feel stuck. If we can think of it as part of our progression to a new stage, it won’t be so scary. I have been through many transitions and although I don’t have it all together, I have some tips for being powerful through your transition.

I truly love God and I want to walk the path He has for me. But sometimes I can’t tell the difference between an idea I’ve had (I have oodles of them) or if it is God’s direction for me. And many times, I’m sure I have a glimpse of His direction but I seem to hit walls.

So, what can we “do” when we are unclear about next steps? Here are a few pointers that I have found that seem to help. Hope this helps you too!

  1. Connect with God. Read the Bible – Psalms? Ephesians? John? Talk with God but spend more time in quiet praising, acknowledging that He is in control and listening.
  2. Wait with expectation. Sometimes God says “Yes – Ready, Set, GO” but He also says, “No, that’s not my best for you” and sometimes He says “Wait for me to prepare you and others.” As you pray, wait with expectation that He WILL answer and then quiet yourself to know His presence.
  3. Surrender the answer. We really want to “know” and God really wants us to surrender the answer to Him. In the meantime, trust that He will bring it all together for good. (Romans 8:28)
  4. Step out. Take a small step in one direction. Check in with the Holy Spirit within and listen for clarity – Continue? Wait? Try a different direction?
  5. Focus on what you’ve been avoiding. Is there an area of your life that needs your attention that you’ve been avoiding? Perhaps clutter in your home, or a relationship that needs nourishing or clearing your schedule or getting your finances in order. Use this time to care for this important area in your life that God may be waiting for YOU to handle.

Remember, God is in control. So relax and let Him drive.

Please leave a comment about what you might have been avoiding that really needs your attention.  Let me know your next step to deal with that.  I’m really interested.
